La Boca is one of the most well-known photography spots in Buenos Aires. Photos of the colourful houses of the barrio are what you’ll see on every tourist information leaflet. The colourful houses are actually conventillos – tenant houses, where hundreds of immigrant families lived in the 19th century. They were painted in the 60s as an attempt to revive the borough.

Here are some of our favourite shots from beautiful La Boca.

The most visited area is El Caminito, which is easily accessible and safe for tourists. Most of La Boca is described as ‘seedy’, so you’ll be better off sticking to this popular area.

Check out our post on 5 photography hotspots in Buenos Aires for more of the best areas to snap awesome pictures of this amazingly vibrant city, including maps, tips and more of our photo galleries.

Top Tip! Take advantage of the free tours offered by the Government of Buenos Aires. There are currently three that cover La Boca:

  • Walking Tour: Wednesdays at 11am.
  • Bici-Tour (a bike tour): Every day at 9.45am, 12.45pm and 2.45pm. There is a charge if you would like an electric bike.
  • Urban Trekking: Sundays at 10am. This is an 18km city tour that covers many different areas.

Remember to book in advance.
